Report & Results 2011
11 December  @11:30am- All Ireland Cross Country - Juvenile Uneven Ages, Novice - Curragh.

Naas AC had it's most successful day at the All Irelands in years and how fitting that the event was staged at the Curragh.

THE first race was the Girls U11 (1.5k) race in which we had our first medal winner in the excellent Lauren Carey who finished in 7th place (first 12 individuals get medals) in a field of over 150 athletes. She also received a Gold Medal on the provincial team.  Other inpressive perfromers were Keela McGee and Abigail Dunne who finished in 24th and 36th respectively.

We did even better in the U11 Boys race (1.5K). We had two top twenty finishers in Josh Derham and Jack Cleary. The Boys were joined by their teammates Sean Woods, Conan Boran, Jamie Butler and Patrick Farmer to win the Bronze medal in the club event. This was a marvellous performance as I can't recall the last time we won a team medal at the All Irelands. The ever inproving Derham also featured on the Leinster team which finished in 2nd place.

Siobhan Delaney had an excellent run in the Girls U15 race (3.5K) finishing in 18th place and also winning a silver medal on the Leinster team.

The last race of the day was the Mens Novice race over 6km. The large field of 250 athletes included two young Naas athletes in Patrick Roche and Ashton Farrell. Patrick had a storming race to finish in 41st place. Ashton had to pull out of the race due to illness. Good luck to Patrick as he heads to Australia and the Wednesday night sessions won't be same without him.

Finally well done to the local County Board (including our own Brain Dowling who spent endless hours on this event), the Army and AAI for a well organised event.

Congrats to Ciara Gallagher who won Kildare Juvenile Athlete of the year 2011 in recognition of performances throughout the year in Track & Field, League and Cross Country.

20 November @12 noon - Kildare Senior Cross Country Championships - Castletown House, Celbridge. 10k men, womens 4k.

Sunday 01 May - Millbrook Cup 6 mile senior handicap race & 2 mile fun run & walking Sunday Punchestown racecourse.

The 86th edition of the Jack Garvey Millbrook Cup race took place last Sunday being one of the centrepieces of walking Sunday at Punchestown racecourse. The senior 6 mile race is handicapped on time – slowest off first, fastest last - and is run over three laps of the strength sapping steeplechase course. This was a very exciting race with 2010 winner John Canning (Newbridge AC) and 2009 winner Larry Kelly (St. Coca's AC) both competing. In the closest race for years Tom Gallagher finished seconds ahead of Patrick Roche with Gerry Halton in third place (all Naas AC). Cathal McLysaght won the vets section. The youngest competitor in the field Patrick Roche had the fastest time over the six mile course and will no doubt be back next year to go one better. The handicapper had done a good job as the first five athletes all fininshed within a minute of the winner.

Meanwhile the 2 mile fun run was won by Keith Abbot in a excellent time and he was followed home by the impressive Anna Cleary in second place with Ciara Gallagher in third place third.  Well done to all who helped orgainse both events and in particular to Brian Mullaney, Brian Dowling and the rest of the stewards on the day. See Photo Gallery (courtesy of Matt McCabe).
