All Ireland Uneven ages and Novice Cross Country Championships Sunday 15 December, 2013 @Waterford IT.


Rachel McKeogh and Lucy Ross who competed with the Kildare team U11

There were 144 people in the girls U13 2,500m race in Waterford IT. Hazel McLoughlin ran a brilliant race to finish in 11th position and help the Leinster team to take first place. In the U13 boys 2,500m race Josh Derham and Jack Cleary both ran very well to finish in 27th and 35th position respectively.

Anna Cleary finished in 35th position in the U17 girls 4,000m. She was on the Leinster team but they just missed out on a medal coming 4th. In the U19 girls 4,000m race Victoria O,Brien ran well to finish in 30th position. Well done to all athletes who competed.


Sunday 1st December 2013   Kildare Senior Cross Country Championships, Castletown House, Celbridge. Women's 4km followed by Men's 10km.

Well done to all Naas athletes who competed at the Senior County X Country Championships. Patrick Roche won the senior mens race and led his team of Aston Farrell, Bob Lawlor and Daragh O'Callaghan to third place in the team event. The ladies team of Tracy Jennings, Ruth Murphy, Victoria O'Brien and Sarah Kearns finished in 3rd place also. Tracy finished in 5th place just outside the medals.



All Ireland Juvenile Even ages and Junior & Senior Cross Country Championships Sunday 17 November, 2013 @ Santry.

166 of the best athletes in the country took to the field in the Boys U12 2,000m race in Santry Demesne. Michael Lawlor ran a great race finishing in 3rd place and also picked up a gold medal leading home the Leinster team.  Sean Woods ran a fine race to finish in 35th place.

In the Girls U14 3,000m race Hannah Grant finished in 46th place in a huge field of over 150 athletes. Our only other medal winner on the day was Ruth Murphy who finished in 18th place in the Womens Junior 4km but was part of the Kildare County team who secured the silver medal. Well done to all athletes and coaches.



British & Irish Master Cross Country Championships Saturday 16 November, 2013 - Cardiff.

Congratulations to Evelyn McNelis who finished in 2nd place in her age category at the above championships.



Leinster Cross Country Day 2- Uneven ages Juvenile and Intermediate Men/Women Sunday 10 November, 2013 Adamstown, Co. Wexford.

Adamstown was the venue for day two of the Leinster Cross Country Championshipsand  Naas had a large turnout of athletes with competition for boys and girls under 11, 13, 15, 17 and 19 years and for Intermediate Women & Men.
 
Our best performer on the day was Hazel McLoughlin who was 6th in the very competitive Girls U13 2,500m. McLoughlin and Keela Magee were also part of the County team who finished in 2nd place.

Other impressive performers were Jack Cleary 15th in the Boys U13 2,500m race while his sister Anna Cleary finished in 11th place in the Girls U17 4,000m. The Girls 17 team of Cleary, Ruth Murphy, Ciara Robotham and Aine O’Connor were all part of the county team who finished in 2nd place. Tracy Jennings had an excellent run in the Intermediate Women’s race finishing in 15th place.

Leinster Cross Country Day 1 - Even ages Juvenile, Novice & Masters Sunday 27th October 2013 - Dunboyme. Co. Meath.

Naas had a very successful outing at the Leinster XC last weekend. In a non championship event Eoin Lawlor won the Boys U10 1,000m race and is a bright star for the future. Lorcan Dunne finished in 10th place in the same race.

The first championship race of the day was the Girls U12 2,000m. Eabha Stewart finished in 11th place thus securing her place on the Leinster team for the All Irelands. The Club team of Stewart, Eabha Gilroy, Sally Murphy and Alice Sheehan finished in 4th place while Stewart and Gilroy were part of the County team that finished in 4th place. 

Michael Lawlor was a superb winner of the Boys U12 2,000m with a total of 135 athletes competing in this race. The club team of Lawlor, Sean Woods, Patrick Farmer and Gary Dunne finished in 3rd place while the County team finished in 2nd place with Lawlor, Woods and Farmer part of the team. 

We had a strong team in the Girls U14 3,000m with a field of 120 athletes going to the line. Hannah Grant finished in an excellent 9th place with the Club team of Grant, Sarah Stewart, Kate Grant and Abi Farmer finishing in 3rd place. Hannah Grant and Sarah Stewart were also part of the County team that finished in 1st place.

The Girls U16 Club team of Anna Cleary, Ciara Robotham, Aisling Roche and Aine O'Connor finished in 4th place and all four Girls were part of the County team that finished in 2nd place.

Tracey Jennings, who has been running well all year, was part of the Novice Womens County Team that finished in 2nd place in the 4,000m event.

Kildare Cross Country Championships Day 1 Even ages and Novice/Masters Sunday 6th October 2013 @ Suncroft.

Naas had a very successful outing on the first day of the County cross country championships. We won numerous individual medals and team prizes. We had a number of winners including the Lawlor brothers Eoin in the Boys U10 600m and Michael in the Boys U12 1500m, Hannah Grant in the Girls U14 2,000m and Ruth Murphy who ran a storming race in the Girls U18 4,000m

Star of the Sea 25th Annual Open Cross Country meeting Sunday 22 September-
Naas had a big turnout of athletes for the first cross country event of the season. We won lots of individual medals and also team prizes. The main performers were Eoin Lawlor 1st Boys U9 500m followed home by Ardin Magee in 2nd place. The U9 boys also won the team prize. Other good performers were Eabha Stewart 2nd in Girls U12 1500m, Lauren Carey 3rd U13 Girls 1500m, Michael O'Dea 3rd Boys U15 2500m, Ruth Murphy 2nd Girls U17 3000m and Siobhan Delaney third in Women's Junior (U20) race. See attached for full results. Well done to all athletes as Naas finished in second place in the overall juvenile club competition.

All Ireland U12 to U19 Track & Field Championships Day 3 and 4 20th/21st July Tullamore -

We won 3 medals on the final two days of the All Ireland Juvenile championships. Mairead Drewitt won gold in the Girls U19 Javelin while Michael Jordan won bronze in the Boys U17 Javelin. Well done to both athletes and to their coach Tony Shine who also coached other athletes from other Kildare clubs who got on the podium. Our final medallist was Ailbhe Gallagher who won a gold medal as part of the Kildare County U15  4 X 100m team (Ellie O'Toole and Aimee McGrath both Newbridge AC and Lisa Aspell Crookstown AC.) Schools International Santry Saturday 20th July 2013 - Ciara Gallagher was part of the schools team who finished second behind England with Scotland third and Wales fourth. Ciara was 8th in the Girls 300m and ran the anchor leg of the relay team 4 x 300m to finish third.

Well done to athletes as Naas has won section A of the league for the second year in a row. We also had eight individual winners as follows: U9 Boys Eoin Lawlor/ Ardin McGee joint winners, U10 Girls Sarah Cleary, U12 Girls Sally Murphy, U12 Boys Michael Lawlor, U13 Boys Josh Derham, U14 Girls Abigail Farmer and U14 Boys Eoin Conneff.

Well done to Claire Mooney who finished second in the ladies U23 400m race in a time of 55.84. Our Javelin throwers Elaine Corrigan and Mairead Drewitt finished in 7th and 8th place respectively in the U20 competition.

All Ireland Pairs Competition U9 to U11 Sat 29 June, 2013, Finn Valley, Donegal.

Congratulations to Eoin Lawlor and Ardin McGee who were double medal winners in the U9's pairs competition. They won the Long Jump and were second in the 300m. This is a great achievement for both boys.

Tailteann Schools U17 Interprovincial Competition Sat 29 June 2013, Tullamore  

Well done to Ciara Gallagher who finished 3rd in the 300M in a time of 41.73. Ciara has been selected on the Irish schools team for the upcoming international against England, Scotland & Wales on Sat 20 July in Santry. Also well done to Michael Jordan who finished 7th in a hugely competitive Javelin competition with a throw of 40.23m.

Congrats to the Naas Boys U12 who won the Gold medal at the Leinster team event held in Celbridge. The Boys U12 team was Michael Lawlor, Sean Woods, Patrick Farmer and Darragh Holmes. The Boys U13 team of Jack Cleary, Josh Derham, Sean O'Connor and David O'Callaghan finished in 4th place, just one point off bronze medal winners.

31 May 2013 - Report on Claire Mooney

An update on Claire, she's off tho the US nationals with the relay team next week.
 
NCAA Regional Championships.  At the NCAA Eastern Region Championships last Sat 25th May, Claire Mooney and her 4 x 400m relay team mates all ran exceptionally well to qualify for the NCAA National US Championships which will be held next week in Oregon from 5th to 8th June. In doing so they set another PB of 3.35.97 which is less than half a sec off the St John's College record set in 1998. They finished in 11th position overall, this puts them in the top 12 relay teams in the eastern US and in the top 24 in the USA. Claire's contribution to the win was enormous, running the anchor leg she ran a split of 53.42 to ensure qualification. Claire has been running very well this year as her times indicate. This is a great achievement for her, as the standard at these Championships is very high. 


National Track & Field League Round 1 Sun 26th May 2013, Tullamore.

A number of our young athletes competed for County Kildare last weekend. They were Eileen Woods (Long Jump), Michael Jordan (Javelin), Mairead Drewitt (Javelin), Elaine Corrigan (Javelin), Aston Farrell (5km) and Ciara Gallagher (400m). The ladies County team are second overall in the Premier division while the Mens County Team are 11th overall in Division 1 after the first day of competition. Full results are on AAI website. The next round is on 14th July.


Leinster U9 to U11 Pairs, U12 and Junior (U/20) Track & Field Championships Sat 25th May, 2013 Tullamore

We had great success on the first day of the Leinster Championships. We had double gold medal winners in the Boys U9 pairs competition with Eoin Lawlor & Ardin McGee winning both the 300m and the Long Jump. Our Javelin throwers continued with their good form in winning a total of four medals. Well done to all athletes and some will now go onto to the All Irelands.

May 2013 - A report on Claire Mooney, club athlete who is on scholarship in New York City

Big East Championships USA.   On 5th May Claire Mooney competed in the Big East Championships in Piscataway, New Jersey, where she ran in a very competitive 400M. She missed out on making the final by the narrowest of margins when she finished 9th overall in a time of 55.08, a new PB for Claire. This is also the fastest time recorded by an Irish athlete this year.  She was also a member of the 4 x 400m relay team that finished 7th in a time of 3.41.39 and qualified for the ECAC championships. She also qualified for the 400M in the ECAC's.
At the ECAC Championships on the 12th May, Claire ran 55.51 for the 400M when finishing in 10th position. As part of the 4 x 400m relay team she helped them  win the silver medals in a season best time of 3.36.41. The team now heads to Greensboro, North Carolina for the NCAA Regional Championships to be held on the 23rd- 25th May.

Leinster Inter-Club Juvenile U9 to U19 Relay Championships Sunday 19 May 2013, Greystones.

Well done to our 4 relay teams who all made the finals of the Leinster Championships last Sunday, but all finished just outside the medals. U10 Boys 5th, U11 Girls 5th, U12 Boys 4th and U12 Girls 4th.

Congratulations to Ashton Farrell who was part of the county team who won silver at the Leinster road race championships. He also finished 9th in the overall race.

In the East Leinster Schools Championships Lyle Hood was 2nd in Inter Boys 200m and 3rd in the Inter boys 400m.

Most of the athletes mentioned above will compete at the Leinster schools championships on 15 May & 18 May 2013  in Santry. 
 




JAVELIN Competitions - Dublin Graded Meeting Tallaght 1st May 2013 and Spring Throws competition Athlone 21st April 2013

A number of our Javelin throwers were in action over the last couple of weeks. The throwers have been training hard over the winter under our excellent coach Tony Shine. Mairead Drewitt and Elaine Corrigan were competing in the Javelin (600gr) Spring Throws competition. Mairead finished in 2nd place while Elaine was in 3rd place with throws 27.14 and 26.80 respectively. Michael Jordan won the 700gr Javelin competition with a throw of 31.97.

Michael was also competing in the Dublin Graded meeting on 1st My 2013 where he won the Javelin competition with an excellent throw of 41.0m. Well done to all involved.

Naas AC had a successful day at the championships last weekend. The list of medal winners was as follows:

21 April 2013 Millbrook Cup 6 mile handicap race, Punchestown racecourse
- The 88th edition of the Jack Garvey Millbrook Cup took place last Sunday in front of large crowds at the racecourse. The senior 6 mile race is handicapped on time - slowest off first, fastest last - and is run over three laps of the steeplechase course. This year’s winner was the impressive Patrick Roche (Naas AC) followed home by Ashton Farrell (Naas AC) 2nd place and Bob Lawlor (Naas) in 3rd place. Fastest time was also recorded by Patrick Roche. Ray Swan (Newbridge AC) was the first VET home outside the top three. Well done to all competing athletes particularly Sarah Kearns and Catherine Kelly who ran their first Millbrook Cup.
The Ladies race run over one lap of the steeplechase course (2 miles) was won by Anna Cleary with Siobhan Delaney in 2nd place and Ruth Murphy in 3rd place.  See photo below.

Report on club member Claire Mooney who is attending St. Johns College, New York City.
 
Houston Texas Saturday 23rd March 2013. Claire Mooney had another great run, when she competed in the Kent Taylor Invitational Meet for St John's. She finished 5th in a very competitive 400M in a time of 55.46, a new P.B. which is over half a sec faster than her previous mark. She also competed in the 200M running a time of 25.37 and in the 4 X 400 relay which finished in 3rd position. Claire can be very pleased with her performances this early in the outdoor season.
 
South Florida Invitational Meet, Tampa Florida 17th March 2013. On St Patrick's Day, Claire Mooney ran in her first race of the outdoor season, in the South Florida Invitational Meet, Tampa, Florida. She finished 3rd in the 400M in a time of 56.05, she was also on the 4 x 400M relay team that finished in 1st place.
 
 
ECAC Championships, USA 3rd March 2013.   Claire Mooney finished her indoor season on a high note when she took the 500M title for her college, St Johns, New York, at the ECAC Championships held in Boston. She set a new PB of 1.12.01 for the 500M when winning by almost a second from her nearest rival.  
 


All Ireland Indoor Championships U12 to U19 Athlone Sat & Sun 23rd/24th March 2013 - 

Well done to our three medal winners  at the Ireland indoors last weekend. They were Michael Lawlor second in the Boys U12 600M, Keela McGee 3rd in the Girls U13 60m hurdles and Emer McCabe 3rd in the Girls U18 Long Jump.

Kildare Road Race Intermediate & Master Womens 3k and Mens 6k @ Naas Rugby Club Monday 18 March 2013

Well done to the ladies team of Ruth Murphy, Siobhan Delaney, Naoise Gallagher, Sarah Kearns and Laura English who finished first team home in the Intermediate 3k event. Ruth won silver and Siobhan bronze in the individual Intermediate race. Ashton Farrell finished in 3rd place in the Mens Intermediate 6k event while the mens team finished in 4th place. There were two individual winners in the Masters 6km race with Tom Gallagher winning the M3 category amd Gerry Halton winning the M5 category. The Mens Master team finished 6th overall. Leinster Indoor Championships U12 to U19 Athlone IT Sat & Sun 9th and 10th March 2013  -
 (Detailed results are available on Athletics Leinster website) - Naas had a very successful outing at the Leinster indoors winning a total of 10 medals including 3 Gold, 3 Silver and 4 Bronze. Our most inpressive performer was Michael Lawlor in winning the Boys U12 600m. Other notable performers were Emer McCabe who won two medals in the th Girls U18 Long Jump and Triple Jump respectively and Keela McGee who won the Girls U13 60m hurdles.

All Ireland Schools Cross Country Championships Saturday 9 March 2013, Jordanstown 

 Well done to St. Mary's Naas who finished third in the Intermediate Girls team race last weekend. Club athletes Siobhan Delaney (16th), Anna Cleary (32nd) and Naoise Gallagher (54th)  were running for St. Mary's. 

Saturday 2 March Scottish Indoors Championships U18 & U20 Emirates Arena Glasgow - The magnificent new Emirates Arena was the setting for the Scottish Indoors Championships with huge mumbers competing from all over the UK and Ireland. We had three athletes competing in Lyle Hood, Emer McCabe and Ciara Gallagher. Emer jumped a personal best (PB) of 5.15m in the Girls U18 Long Jump finishing just outside in the medals in 5th place having been in the bronze medal position until the final round of competition. At the same time she also ran in the heats of the 60m Hurdles finishing in 6th place. Both Lyle and Ciara each ran 4 races on the day, a testimony to their high level of fitness. Lyle's first race was the U18 400M heats in which in he finished in 3rd place in a time of 53.56 thus qualifying for the semi-finals where he finished in 5th place in a time of 54.53 but didn't qualify for the final. Later in the afternoon he finished 3rd in the heats of the 200m in a time of 24.28 and qualified for the semi-finals where he finished 4th in a time of 24.19. Ciara's first race was also the U18 400m where she finished second in her heat in a time of 59.81 and one hour later competed in the final where she finished in 6th place in a time of 60.88. In the afternoon she won her heat in the 200m in a a time of 27.13. She went even quicker in the semi-final when she finished in second place in a time of 26.71 but just missed out on a place in the final. Ciara was one of the youngest in the field and is still eligible to compete in this age group next year.

Well done to all 3 athletes as this experience will serve them well for the upcoming Leinster Indoor Championships in Athlone next weekend. Also a special thanks to coaches Cera Nolan and Martin Luby.  


Saturday & Sunday 9/10 February 2013 All Ireland Junior, U23 and Masters Indoor Championships, Athlone IT Stadium
- Ciara Gallagher was our only competitor in the All Ireland Junior (U20) indoor championships. She qualified for the final of the 400m event where she finished in 6th place. Congratulations to her father Tom Gallagher who won a bronze medal in his Masters category (M45) in the 400m in a time of 57.73.

Sunday 3 February 2013 All Ireland Masters Cross Country Championships, Derry - Congratulations to Evelyn McNellis who won her category (V7) in the womems 4km race.

Saturday 2 February 2013 Leinster Indoor Senior, Junior (U20) and Masters Championships, Athlone
 - Congratulations to Ciara Gallagher on winning a Gold medal in the Junior 400m (time 59.36) Leinster Indoor Championships depiste still competing in the U17 age group. She also finished 4th in the Junior 200m event. Emer McCabe and Eileen Woods finisheg 5th and 6th respectively in the Junior long jump while Emer also finished 7th in the 60m sprint.
 
Lyle Hood recorded some fast times in the Junior 200m (time 24.04) and 400m (time 53.40) by finishing 5th and 6th respectively. Ross Fowler also did well competing in hir first indoor championships in the Junior 60m and 200m. Our other medal winner on the day was Tom Gallagher who two bronze medals in the Masters M3 400m and 800m. The new indoor arena at Athlone IT is drawing huge crowds and is proving to be a very fast track. Next weekend Athlone IT hosts the All Ireland Indoor Junior, U23  and Masters championships.

Saturday 26 January 2013 All Ireland Combined Events Championships - We had four athletes competing at the new Athlone IT Indoor Stadium on Saturday. For all athletes it was a historic occasion, competing as they were in Ireland's first international state of the art indoor track. Tony O'Connor, competing in his first combined event, finished in 5th place in the Boys U14 category while Evin McGee finished in 15th place in the Boys U15 event. Emer McCabe finished in 6th place in Youth Girls event and Dave Turner was our only medal winners on the day finishing in 3rd place in the Masters M35 category.

Thursday 24 January 2013 South Leinster Schools Cross Country - Clongowes - Naas had a number of athletes competing in this event. In the first race of the day the Girls Minor 1.5k racer, the St. Mary's Naas team finished in 3rd place with Aishling Roche in 6th place, Abigail Farmer 13th and Ailbhe Gallagher in 21st place. In the junior race Aine O'Connor finished in 11th place and qualified for the Leinster Cross Country championships. In the Girls Intermediate 3k race, the St. Mary's Naas team won the event with Siobhan Delaney in 4th place, Anna Cleary (5th) and Cliodhna O'Connor (Crookstown) in 9th place. Ruth Murphy (Newbridge College) finished in 10th place and also qualified for the Leinster Championships.

Sunday 20 January Leinster Cross County Juvenile relays and Junior events
- Naas had a number of relays teams competing in the Inter Club event but perhaps the performance of the day was Siobhan Delaney in the Junior (U20) 4k race. She finished in an excellent 3rd place despite the fact that she competes at U17 level. We won team gold in the Girls U16 ( 4 x 500m relay) with a great preforamce from Anna Cleary, Aine O'Connor, Amy Carey,  Ailbhe Gallagher and sub Nicole Dunne.   We picked up 3 other team medals with Silver for Boys U12 (4x 250 Relay) and Bronze for both Boys U14 (4 x  500m) and Girls U14 (4 X 500m). Well done to all.  

Saturday 12 January 2013 Antrim International Cross Country-
Siobhan Delaney and Anna Cleary were picked on the Leinster team to compete in Antrim. Siobhan finished 11th in the U17 3K event while Anna finished 16th in the U15 3k event.
