National Cross Country Championships – December 7th, 2014

Congratulations to Michael Lawlor who won the u/13 c/c National Title on Sunday 7th December in Santry Demesne. Michael was always up with the leaders and with 200 mts to go moved to the front to finish strongly well clear of the second finisher. It was a tremendous performance from Michael over a challenging course. The other team members Liam Phibbs , Jamie Butler , Gary Dunne and Patrick Farmer also performed well but no team medals on this occasion.

 Mikey Lawlor

There were also excellent performances from Ruth O'Hara who was 8th in the under 17 Championship and featured on the Leinster team along with Aisling Roche who finished second in the Interprovincial, where were Interprovincial Medals also in the Girls under 19 Championship for Siobhan Delaney (10th) and Ruth Murphy (24th).  The Nass u19 girls team also won bronze :- Siobhan Delaney, Ruth Murphy & Emily Sheehan.  In addtition, Siobhan's placing in the u19 race led to her being selected to represent Ireland at U20 level in the Celtic Games Cross Country to be held in Dunboyne on 18th of January. This is an annual event involving teams from Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Ulster.

Finally in the last race of the day - the Novice Men's Championship there was a storming run from Patrick Roche who came in 7th place of the near 200 man field. This was Paddy's third race in 8 days as, having won the County Senior the previous Sunday over 10km, he then went to post in the Army Championships over 10km on Wednesday in which he finished 2nd, before facing the starter for a further 6km yesterday.
